Bandwidth Usage Policy

JPStream’s bandwidth policy is simple! You are allotted a portion of bandwidth per month to do with as you please. You can use this bandwidth for anything you want besides things not permitted as outline in the Acceptable Usage Policy. If you go over your allotted amount of bandwidth in a given month, your account will not be suspended or terminated but you will be expected to pay for the additional bandwidth.

JPStream provides a bandwidth estimate figure in your control panel. This is an estimate and is provided from the server level. Actual account bandwidth usage is measured for billing purposes at the port level. This policy exists because many users offer files for download via FTP which is not otherwise measured by the server directly at this time. Please note that because the bandwidth is monitored at the port, any and all traffic for your Web Site is tracked including, but not limited to: FTP uploads and downloads, mail sending and retrieval, normal Web traffic, etc. Everything that is pushed from our server to a third-party’s machine is considered bandwidth and will be measured.

We have designed this policy because many users find that hosts offer “unlimited” bandwidth only to find out that it has a very real bandwidth limit. Further, they place restrictions on what you can use the bandwidth for (i.e. no image galleries because they are a large source of bandwidth consumption). We tell you up-front how much bandwidth you are allocated each month and you have the full amount to use.

It is important to note that many sites don’t use more than 1 GB of bandwidth. Your site has to be very popular or very graphic intensive to use more than 1 GB. If you are unsure of your bandwidth usage prior to moving your site to JPStream, contact us. We would be happy to review your current site statistics with you to help you choose the right package.

Uptime Guarantee

JPStream’s proven record and current standing monthly average of an aggregate monthly 99.998% network uptime sets a new standard for reliability. It translates to less than 35 seconds of downtime per month. Something very rare in today’s industry. Read on to find out why we have excellent uptime and why we can guarantee this!

How can JPstream guarantee this reliability/uptime?

The strength of our infrastructure and support systems makes it possible for JPStream to offer an industry-leading 99.5% Guaranteed Uptime policy, covering all Web sites hosted on our servers. Subject to the terms of the Guaranteed Uptime policy (‘SLA’), a customer’s Web site will be up and available at least 99.5% of the time in any given calendar month, or the customer will receive a credit towards his or her next month’s Web hosting services, according to the current Service Level Agreement.

Our Guarantee

In the event that your web site is not available for more than 99.5% within a month, JPStream˜ will credit the following month’s service fee according to the chart to the left. The domain name being credited must still be active on our systems during the month following the downtime to receive credit. Maximum credit shall not exceed the basic monthly service charge for the affected month. Credit can only be applied to services for the specific domain name that experienced the downtime and does not have a cash value.

How do you maintain a good uptime record?

Our servers all have what we like to call watchdogs, if any vital server component such as e-mail, apache, excessive cpu load, or a hardware failure we will automatically receive notification via pager with server ID every 5 minutes until the problem is fixed. This system has allowed us to quickly correct problems that may go unnoticed for long periods of time, it also gives us peace of mind knowing that we can meet and exceed our 99.5% uptime guarantee.

What has your uptime been for the past 6 months?

Although it is hard to summarize the data for all of our servers in our Network Operations Center (NOC), we estimate our network uptime has been 99.998% over the past 6 months (plus or minus 0.002%).
